About Me

My name is Rebecca Smith. I am a Psychology PhD student at the University of Glasgow (Glasgow, Scotland) exploring the complex relationship between whole-body movement and the transmission of our internal emotional states through classical dance.

I have been a student at the University of Glasgow since 2013. In June 2017, I graduated with a BSc in Psychology (with Honours of the First Class), and in November 2018 I graduated with an MSc in Research Methods of Psychological Science (with Distinction). In October 2018, I began working with the fabulous Professor Emily Cross, and other members of the So-Bots Lab, in the University of Glasgow Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology.

The aim of my project is to develop a framework for how different body regions transmit emotions to an observer; and to eventually implement this framework to benefit human-robot interaction. My research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council under the Artificial Intelligence remit.

In my spare time, I paint landscapes in my makeshift home studio (i.e. a small corner of my living room), attend weekly ballet classes and shamelessly enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons.
