Reviewing the Literature...

I am currently conducting a large-scale literature review of previous work exploring the relationship between emotion portrayals and quantifiable features of human movement. I am also exploring expressivity perceived from movement in relation to Laban Movement features.

Creating a New Library of Dance Movements with Motion Capture

I worked with renowned dancer Eve Mutso to create a new library of expressive movements depicted in the form of point-light displays. Eve generated and performed a series of movements in the University of Glasgow's motion capture suite. These sequences contained neutral movements (i.e. movements that are not inherently linked with any particular emotion or narrative), but were each performed in five different ways to communicate emotions to observers; neutral, happy, sad, angry and fearful. This paper has now been submitted and the preprint can be found at: https://psyarxiv.com/ncwqj
The data and full library is available at: https://osf.io/458sq/

McNorm: Stimulus Library Validation Study

My current study asks participants to assist me in validating the usefulness of my motion capture data. More details to follow...

In the meantime, should you wish to take part in this study follow the link below;

McNorm: Aesthetics Norming Study

The current project asks participants to provide beauty and liking ratings for stimuli clips from the full McNorm Movment Library.

More detail to follow...

McNorm: Line Drawing Study

The movement clips included in the McNorm Movement Library have been converted into images depicting the trajectories of the wrists and ankles.

In this project participants will be asked to provide beauty and liking ratings for each of these images, in addition to providing an attempt at classifying the images into different emotion categories.
